Schaumburg Bankruptcy Lawyers’ Fees and Court Costs

Lawyers’ fees will vary from attorney to attorney.  However, the actual court cost for filing bankruptcy will not deviate.  For Chapter 7 bankruptcy, the current filing fee charged by the Clerk of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court is $299.00.  For Chapter 13 bankruptcy, the current filing fee is $274.00.  The filing fees can be paid in installments, however, this is very rare.  If one cannot afford to pay the filing fee in a lump sum payment, he is not likely to be able to afford counsel.  As far as attorneys go, you can find a wide variety of skill level and experience.  For example, I met with a man yesterday who had been to three other attorneys prior to seeking my advice.  He stated that he did not feel comfortable with any of the three prior attorneys and that he was getting conflicting information.  One attorney said that he did not qualify based upon his income.  Another attorney failed to mention that his joint debt with his business would not stop collection efforts on the business unless the business filed bankruptcy as well.  I was the only attorney to point out that because the debt was primarily non-consumer debt, the means test would not be applicable.  It was upon hearing this advice that I was hired on the spot.

Thus, be aware that every attorney is different.  There are often significant differences in skill levels and in service levels.  Particularly, my firm will never assign you with an internal number.  You will always be a person and you will be treated with the utmost in care.  Since 1991, one of the reasons why I have been so successful is that I strive to provide the highest care in the nature of customer service.  People are concerned when they are forced to file bankruptcy.  It is not an area that they are familiar with in their lives.  By seeking a compassionate attorney, the process will be much more tolerable.  A good lawyer can almost make the process pleasant.
